Arts Every Day // Curatorial Internship - Student 2

Image
Curatorial Internship at a Non-profit Arts Organization I had originally first gotten into contact with AED last school year through the EDS program. Through that class, I was able to meet the director of operations at AED. After the class I reached out to who would be my supervisor to participate with more hands-on experience through this internship. Arts Every Day is a non profit organization dedicated to advancing equitable access to arts education in Baltimore City Public Schools. Some ways they achieve this is through art experience/materials funding, teacher professional development, and the 10x10 exhibition. This exhibition is the project I would be working on. This is an annual exhibition hosted by AED where Baltimore City students and teachers alike submit artwork to celebrate the creativity that is abundant within our community. This year's exhibition theme is “Culture: Symbols, Rituals and Heroes.” “Arts Every Day is proud to present its 9th Annual 10X10 Exhibit titled: ...

MICA RCCE E/Studio Internship

Image
I was thrilled when my advisor introduced me to the RCCE E/Studio Internship that aligned perfectly with my interests in business and entrepreneurship. I quickly began preparing my application and polishing my portfolio to showcase my skills and passion for the field. This internship is eligible for credit which was another aspect that made it an ideal fit for my academic goals. It also provides hands-on experience and knowledge that will undoubtedly shape my future career in the business world, and I was eager to seize this opportunity to learn and grow.  The Executive Creative Director at Andre Bean Brand served as our internship director at the RCCE E/Studio Internship. Throughout my time under his guidance, I gained insights into the world of marketing, drawing from his wealth of real-life experiences. The knowledge and personal stories he shared with us proved to be incredibly valuable resources, as they are not typically accessible within the confines of a traditional school...

Submersive Productions

Image
Submersive Productions is an immersive experience company based in Baltimore. Artists, writers, dancers, and musicians collaborate to make site-specific immersive experience productions. In their work, audience participation is centered as an important role in unfolding the narrative of a show. I found this internship through a professor of mine who introduced Submersive Productions’ work in her class and helped me get connected. When I had an opportunity for an interview with Submersive, then after I secured the internship. I was able to experience various parts of Submersive Productions’ work—from idea devising, concept research, venue-searching, fabricating samples and props for an upcoming show, and material researching. I assisted in an idea for one of their projects, The Boundary, which is an immersive experience piece that deals with death and grief. My direct supervisor was one of the co-artistic directors. They participate in collaborative devising works for immersive experien...

Keypair

Image
Keypair is a security company with blockchain technology and KCMVP-certified products. This internship was introduced to me when I visited Keypair with an artist who is planning to make NFT to ask about NFT. While I was asking some questions about NFT to the CEO, he offered me a design intern position. I thought it would be a great experience so I started my design internship at Keypair. The main project of the company was to upgrade a crypto wallet app. Therefore, we were adding new functions and upgraded them. My direct supervisor is a UI/UX designer/developer and we discussed a lot of the UI/UX design of the app and what can be implemented through code. I was honored to be part of designing the whole UI/UX and visual designs of the app. I am most proud to see my designs on an app that everyone can use. My biggest takeaway from this is that I learned more depth about software, such as Figma, Illustrator, and After Effects. The most important thing that I learned from this inter...

FILMARTIST Creative Agency

Image
I found this internship when they did a pop-up show at Stackt market  in Toronto. Stackt has taken unused land and transformed it into an experience  of curated discovery. It’s designed entirely out of shipping containers. I  really loved this space and the concept but was very interested in the  interactive work FILMARTIST had done. FILMARTIST is a creative agency dedicated to crafting innovative and artistic  contents for brands and businesses. By harnessing the talent of commercial  artists, brand specialists and digital content creators, they produce  memorable visual experiences and design. My direct supervisor was the co-founder of the agency.  I was involved in the design process of many of their projects, including  design the 3D/4D graphics of an augmented reality business card. I also  designed a lot of things for proposals like an interactive, immersive  experience gallery space for two artists in China. I de...

Google UX Design

Image
I applied to Google’s UX design internship online through their application portal . My New York office offer was finalized in early April.  Although the hiring process is quite opaque, I assume that I stood out in the candidate pool  because of the diverse design projects I worked on outside of class and my in-depth progress  for my design challenge. During my interviews, I also spoke confidently and engagingly about  my designs. I lead the development of two UX projects for Google Docs and proposed new solutions that  make it easier for users to work in Docs.  Being the first to work on a new  problem space at Google, I wasn’t given specific design instructions . Instead, I took it into my own hands to research the problem area and  discover useful data to identify previously unthoughtful design directions. I also actively  prepared and set up user studies to test my ideas and learn more about user behavior. ...

Maryland Science Center

Image
The Maryland Science Center is an interactive museum aimed towards kids and teaching scientific concepts. They were looking for people to help conceptualize and fabricate new exhibits, working with the in-house fabrication studio. I had a lot of experience with what they wanted, particularly robotics, coding, installations, and 3D modeling, and I love science and science education. I applied via the internship faire. My direct supervisor was Jessica Ann, who was the head of Exhibit Fabrication. They ran the whole department, as well as outreach to other departments and managerial stuff.  When I arrived, a new exhibit had just been completed. So, I ended up doing a lot of  fixing and developing on prototypes. My main task was completing these “light wands,” a  casing for handheld LEDs that could light up an exhibit. Since kids would be tugging and pulling  on the cables, durability was essential. I went through 4 iteration...

Quatrefoil Associates

Image
My name is Viditya Voleti and I’m a senior Interactive Arts major. During the summer of 2018, I  interned at Quatrefoil Associates , a private exhibit design firm located in Laurel, Maryland. I  found out about them through the MICA Career Fair where I talked to Michael Burns and Manjit  Kingra. We had a lovely talk, they seemed very taken by my work and I was really excited to try  my hand at museum work. They had previously done an exhibit and renovation of one of the  elephant stations at the National Zoo in DC, which I really loved, so I was excited to try and  work there. After giving my resume, about 3 days later another founder of Quatrefoil called me  up and asked if I wanted to do a tour and interview of the facilities, which went really well and  they offered me the internship after we had talked. Michael Burns ended up being my supervisor, as he is the Design Director of Quatrefoil  Associates and had interviewed...

Holographic Studios

Image
My name is Isabella Pittman and I am a rising Junior Interactive arts major. This summer, I interned at Holographic Studios in New York, NY. My work as an artist is all about light and sound waves as invisible forces in our world. Holography is all about light waves! During my spring semester last year, I saw many of my peers applying for internships so I decided I should do the same. While in a deep internship search I randomly found this internship at a Hologram Studio on a site I do not remember the name of. I send a very passionate email to the owner of the studio about how special I think holograms are and immediately got a response asking me to come intern. I visited that spring to check it out and really got along with the owner of the studio, Jason Sapan aka Dr. Lazer. It’s an amazing feeling to meet someone who has so much experience in a medium you have never explored but always cared about the concepts involved. I came to New York last July for a shorter period...
