The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami

Image
The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami is a privately funded museum that features established as well as up and coming contemporary artists. It is also one of the only museums in Miami that grant free admission. This summer, I interned in the education department of the museum. The education department at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami has many facets. The education department hosts Family Day on every third Sunday of the month, where families are encouraged to visit the museum and take part in curated educational art activities that relate to either a theme or a special exhibition at the museum. Although this is not solely what the department does or is responsible for, the overall aim of the education department in the museum is to make contemporary art more accessible to more students, whether it be through local education organizations, programs or schools. I have worked with the Institute of Contemporary Art since I was a sophomore in high school. Once I graduated...

Bible Lands Museum - Jerusalem, Israel

Image
My name is Molly Kaye, I’m a rising senior Illustration major and MAT candidate. During Summer 2018 I was a workshop intern at the Bible Lands Museum in west Jerusalem, Israel. It is a archaeology museum that focuses on artifacts and the histories from places mentioned in the bible and the Talmudic stories (the stories in Jewish Law), They had exhibits on everything from Neolithic art, to Proto-Canaanite, to Canaanite, to Babylonian, Greek, Roman, Persian, Etruscan and a new exhibit on a recently re discovered ancient way to make a blue dye called Telekhet. I was introduced to the museum through a third-party organization called Onward Israel . Onward is a growing organization, funded by the Jewish Agency (not all participants were Jewish), and seeks to help young adults expand their resumes and to facilitate a deeper firsthand understanding of Israel-Palestine through being part of the society for even a short time. Through Onward I went on several day trips to ancient c...

Shen Wei Dance Arts

In my major, I have been experimenting with my love of painting and my former love of dance and have been making performance art where these two arts are combined. During the summer of 2012 I was an intern at Shen Wei Dance Arts. They are located in the heart of Manhattan, which is where the company was founded. Because they use dance as more of an art, using the body as the medium, this company has built a reputation for performing a “different” and “unique” form of dance. I was one of five interns who worked closely with the office staff of the company. I found out about this internship in January on a website. I sent in my resume and cover letter and was lucky enough to get an interview with them where I showed them my work and shared my love for theirs. At Shen Wei Dance Arts, I worked in event planning, finances, and media/press to help company run. My direct supervisor was the event planner. She was in charge of running and ...
