Corradetti // Glassblowing Internship

Corradetti Glassblowing Studio & Gallery

I started working with glass in my senior year of high school, when art was becoming a serious environment for me. Coming to college, I was talking to the head of sculpture and he was able to get me in contact with the Corradetti’s. During the interview, I found out that the owner and my high school mentor went to college together, my mentor vouched for me to have a spot on the team and I was granted an assistant position at the studio.

I have been working as a glassblowing assistant for Corradetti's since the fall of 2023. The studio is the most amazing place to work for and to work at. They make it easy for me to pursue my work in college, while also learning the art of glassblowing through them. The team consists of a constant group of four, the owner, his son, another assistant, and me. Together we worked on gallery pieces, commission pieces, and workshop pieces. My specific role in the studio is to assist with pieces, to be a second pair of hands for more intricate pieces, to make smaller gallery pieces, and to work the gallery space to sell pieces.

There isn’t one specific project I haven’t been a part of because it’s almost impossible to blow a piece individually. Most of the pieces in the gallery at this point I have assisted with. Mainly cups, glasses, ornaments, vases, bowls, and special commission pieces. I am most proud of my progress not only in my technique, but in my place in the glass world now. I have truly found a love for glass and I am proud of myself for continuing my glass studies.

I have learned so much from this experience not only in glass technique, but also how to run a space and keep an art business running. I feel like the most important thing I have learned is networking. Networking in the art world is so important. I have already met so many new people and I have started making a name for myself in the glass industry in Baltimore. Going forward, I feel like glass is in my future. It is a material that I have really enjoyed working with and I can apply it to my mixed media sculptures like ceramics and metal. After college I don’t know what I want, but I for sure know I’m going to work with glass.
