Bibhu Mohapatra // Fashion Internship

Luxury Fashion Design and Production Intern

My internship with Bibhu Mohapatra was a pivotal and eye-opening experience that marked the beginning of my journey in the fashion industry. I made it a daily habit to search "fashion design internship" on LinkedIn, and ensured my cover letter and resume were always ready to go. I sent out countless applications. Then, one day, I received an email from Bibhu Mohapatra. I traveled to NYC for the interview and it turned out to be an incredible experience, and I was thrilled to join his design team.

Bibhu Mohapatra design focuses on upscale women's clothes, especially for Couture. They focus on weddings and various other designs in collaboration with the emerging designer. His works are praised for their sophisticated modern design, fine details, and fusion of traditional workmanship with modern aesthetics. I worked directly with the Production Manager and Creative Director, which provided me with an opportunity to collaborate closely with the designer and contribute meaningfully.

Among my duties were making technical sketches, procuring fabrics, and helping with design development. To guarantee that design concepts were executed flawlessly, I worked closely with the creative director and production manager. In order to improve the finished designs I researched trends, made prototypes, and made sure that designs matched the brand's goal. I also helped produce seasonal collections. I was able to obtain practical experience in all phases of the design and production process through my work, which improved my ability to be creative and implement ideas in real-world situations.

I am really happy that I was able to attend the New York Fashion Week, because it feels like a dream to be there and help as much as I can. Understanding the complex link between creativity and pragmatism in fashion design was the most important lesson I learned from my internship.
My love for designing and producing sustainable fashion solidified during this internship. It made my objective of pursuing a profession that strikes a balance between ethical and environmental practices and artistic expression clear.

My desire to lead creative teams and have a significant influence in the fashion industry was further strengthened by being immersed in a professional environment. I obviously have bigger dreams and I would love to achieve it through the eyes of a fashion designer and make the world a better place that people feel belonged and loved.
