Samsung Research America

My name is Vishnu Venugopal and I am a 2nd year MFA graphic design student at MICA. During this summer, I was a visual design intern at Samsung Research America. I have been passionate about various forms of visual design from a very young age and hence pursuing this has been a dream come true for me. With interest in multiple design formats, I was trying to find the right fit for me. I chanced upon the internship opportunity at Samsung Research America on the internet. As I was always interested in working closely with technology and research and development, I decided to pursue this opportunity.

At Samsung Research America, most of the teams work on R&D projects. I was part of the CX (Customer Experience) Lab at this office. During my internship, I worked with multiple teams such as Product, Development, and other design teams to understand the design requirements and propose design solutions. Working with multiple teams was both a great learning experience as well as a challenge. Understanding the different perspectives of the cross-functioning teams and how they perceived design was the biggest lesson for me. At the same time, communicating to these teams about the various possibilities and challenges while creating designs was challenging.

Every day was new and exciting, and I had the opportunity to work with new technologies and teams, created prototypes, presented my ideas, and brainstormed new approaches. I learned and gathered a great deal of knowledge during those four months. I am very happy and grateful that I got this opportunity to intern with Samsung Research America.
