This summer I interned at Casper. It is one of the most successful startups in the industry right now, some people even call it the Warby Parker of mattresses. I worked here at a time of tremendous growth and change that was incredibly invaluable.
Their office was located in Manhattan, New York where I worked as a Creative Intern. As a creative intern, I not only worked on traditional graphic design work like typography, publication and web, but media outside of my specialization like animation, video editing and illustration. These challenged me to ask questions and push myself to dive in and give it a shot. I worked on the creative team which is relatively small; approximately 12 people. This was a perfect size because it gave me immediate access to communicate with those who I need to get things done with ease and transparency. In contrast, some larger companies move slower because of the amount of people needed to work on it. Casper is a great company to be a creative and make work that can be seen all around the world in different forms.
A big takeaway from this is to be multifaceted and learn to adapt easily in any situation. Design is a term that can be applied to nearly anything, so it is important to have experience in as many skills as possible to be an indispensable member of any team. And no matter where you work, being a kind person with a good attitude will take you further than anything else.
