Andlab Studio

My name is April Kim, I am a Illustration major. During the Summer of 2017, I was a Junior Illustration Intern for Andlab studio, a company based in Los Angeles. This company is well known for creating the logo for BBCN bank and Imposters. I’ve always wanted to work in the concept art industry so I knew that I wanted to intern as a visual development artist. During the summer I found out Andlab studio was looking for a junior illustrator intern position for their upcoming animated short commercial. This commercial will be broadcasted in China and they were basing their commercial on a character named Lanu. Since they were a branding/graphic design company they needed an illustrator ASAP, so I applied and I had a one on one interview with the head designer Sunook Park and I got in.

Working with them for the past 2 months was in one word, fun. The visual development I worked on mainly consisted of doing the character design and movement for Lanu. What I learned throughout this internship was my passion for concept art and how similar yet different the visual development is for an advertisement and an animation. I have always wanted to be a concept artist so this internship helped me so much to understand what is expected from me and how to present work that is presentable and professional.
