Animation Libation Studio / Animation Internship
Animation Internship at a Studio
I found out about this internship through my friend who started working there before me, and she had recommended this internship to me because we are both majoring in animation. I secured it by applying through their website, and I had a short interview with the head of the studio where we agreed I would start working this fall.
Animation Libation Studios is a small animation-focused studio that is currently working on producing a couple TV shows, and amongst each team there are character, background, and prop designers, animators, and story boarders.
My direct supervisor was in charge of overseeing all of the productions on the show, and meets weekly with each team to check up and give feedback on our progress, as well as keep us up to speed on what we need to work on to meet our schedule deadlines. My responsibilities involved mostly background art, with some prop design. The TV show I am working on is called Champions of Eternity, which is an adventure series based in a fantasy setting.
I am most proud of expanding my capabilities artistically—I was never really that experienced with creating backgrounds, and I was able to learn a lot since this internship pushed me to draw and paint backgrounds that I wouldn’t have done on my own.
My biggest takeaway is realizing the benefits of working on a project with a group, something I had also never really done before, and the experience is different, but beneficial in other ways than if you were working on a project by yourself. If I was struggling with a particular problem, I could always ask my peers, some who have encountered the issue before and helped me accordingly. That leads into the most important thing I learned, which is reaching out to form meaningful connections with other interns, as we’re able to assist and learn from each other. As for skills I acquired, learning new software within the Creative Cloud Suite was definitely a big one, since it will definitely come in handy in the future, but also communication and time management.
I think it’s helped open up more possibilities for my career, since I thought I would only be interested in character design and animation, but I think after this internship and the work that I’ve done for it, I am considering also going into background or prop design.
